Welcome to TeacherCheaps.com!
Before deciding to leave the work force and stay at home with my daughter (born in September, 2008), I was just like you – a teacher!
I remember my very first EDUC college class… Foundations in Education. That class lit the fuse in my quest to become an educator. I was truly in my element when it came to learning how to write lesson plans, create interactive bulletin boards and teach to multiple intelligences. I decided to pursue Spec Ed in addition to El Ed and quickly learned how to write IEPs with the best of them, adapt lessons to meet the needs of my students and be f-l-e-x-i-b-l-e to learn how each student could learn and succeed.
My first teaching position (besides some short and long term subbing before landing a permanent position) was as a primary school technology teacher (ironic, no?). I taught computer classes to grades 1-5 at a private school for 4 years before taking on a new position as a K-3 autistic support teacher in public school.
When my daughter came along, I decided to start budgeting, couponing and mastering the art of frugality in an effort to stay at home for good. That, in a nutshell, is how my other blog, MamaCheaps.com, was born.
Needless to say, over the years I have become pretty good at seeking out deals and freebies. One day it dawned on me that there are so many teacher discounts out there but I couldn’t seem to find a website that offered a database of those deals in one place.
So I created one.
Take some time, poke around. Check out all of the discounts, coupons, freebies and other goodies available to educators (many offers are extended to homeschoolers as well).
I thank you for dedicating your career to instilling a lifelong love of learning in our children. You are truly a hero in my book.
I can’t say for certain whether I will end up back in a classroom someday… but I can tell you this: snow days, freshly sharpened #2 pencils and finding a teachable moment with my daughter will ALWAYS excite me!
